Session 1:  Establishing the Performance Program at Faith Lutheran

We will open by taking a look at the school profile and expectations for the Performance program at Faith Lutheran.  We will start wide with school mission, relationships with admin and head coaches, underlying principles of the performance program.  We will then show how we build our 52-week plan and fit our training principles into the daily schedule that we are given.  Next, we will go over the logistics of a typical day and what we strive to accomplish using the R7 principles.

Session 2:  Critical Adjustments after year 1 for the Performance Program at Faith Lutheran

In year 2, we made some key adjustments to our curriculum and training principles.  We started an ‘Intro to Performance’ class for all freshmen and newcomers.  We will go over our block zero program and the goals that we have for the first year in our program.  We also incorporated training blocks into our speed and training program based on Lee Taft’s materials.  This insured that all students were getting fundamental instruction in linear speed, lateral speed, COD, and plyometrics.

Session 3: Performance and Sport Psychology (special presenter, Mark Cheney)

In this session, Mark Cheney will go over the objective of our Performance and Sport Psychology class.  This elective class is geared to instilling Growth Mindset into our student athletes.  Coach Cheney is heavily invested into this area and has spent summers at IMG Academy as a mental conditioning coach.

Session 4: Theory in Practice and Final Thoughts

In this session we will take a look at some elements of a typical day at Faith.  We will see the beginning of class, dynamic warm up, free play/competition, and a metabolic circuit in the weight room.

Success and performance derived from squatting is 100% reliant on an athlete’s ability to maintain tension and posture as they control their depth into the hole. This hands-on session will provide coaches with different techniques to enhance an athlete’s mobility while teaching beginners how to squat.

These new break-out sessions will serve as a means to engage the amazing coaches present at our events and build connections in our community.  Attendees will break up into small groups that will include a conference speaker and each group will discuss four questions during this hour. The questions will be moderated by the NHSSCA Regional Board Member, Carl Galloway.

Strength programs often struggle to get funding for desired space and equipment to design a program around. This presentation will cover some of the basic concepts that have been used to strengthen athletes without state of the art equipment.

The final Q&A session will provide an opportunity to ask any speaker a follow up from an earlier presentation or to ask a question that developed during the day in the breakout sessions. The Q&A session will be moderated by the NHSSCA Regional Board Member, Carl Galloway.
