SUMMARY:Minnesotta - State Clinic // Minnetonka High School
DESCRIPTION:State Clinic PRESENTERS\n\nKrisCleveland\nDirector of Athletic PerformanceSouthwest Minnesota State University \n\nReganQuaal\nHead Strength & Conditioning CoachTraining Haus/Shakopee High School \n\nTaylorMoon\nHead Strength & Conditioning CoachMinnetonka High School \n\nJoshBrodersen\nAthletic TrainerTRIA \nState Clinic SCHEDULE\n8:15-8:45 am – CHECK-IN/REGISTRATION \n8:50-9:00 am – WELCOMEOverview of Day’s Activities / Presentations by Jessica Gust\, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at St. Louis Park Public Schools \n8:45-10:00 am – DUAL: LECTURE+HANDS-ONBarbell Lifts and Modifications for Injury/Dysfunction by Kris Cleveland \nOVERVIEW: This presentation will discuss the reasons to modify barbell and accessory lifts (pain\, dysfunction\, asymmetry\, etc. We will review some anatomy\, kinesiology\, and biomechanics related to the major lifts and how this correlates to understanding when and if it is necessary to modify lifts. Discussion on optimal dosing and a bit on progressions and regressions will be presented. Practical application will also focus on analyzing lifting techniques utilizing anatomy\, kinesiology\, and biomechanical principles and understanding the role of client feedback with training lifts. \n10:15 am-11:30 pm – DUAL: LECTURE+HANDS-ONRecess Style Training: Lets Kids be Kids by Regan Quaal \nOVERVIEW: I will present on Recess Style Training\, which we have developed at Shakopee High School over the last 2 years. The main reason why I developed this training style is that\, after working with high schoolers and college athletes over the last 10 years\, I realized we are developing under-trained kids and overworked athletes. This became very obvious to me when I started regularly having our kids compete against each other in sports that are not their own. The main issue is we are lowering our kid’s ceiling for their athletic potential because instead of developing proficient abilities in a wide set of skills and physical qualities as a youth\, we are having them only master skills and qualities specific to their sport. This leads to peak development early in a career\, a higher rate of injury\, a lack of competitive nature\, and minimal long-term development (opposite of slow cook). I will also go into how I’ve adopted Charlie Francis’s High-Low System to fit what I think are the needs of the high school and middle school athletes we work with so they are prepared for anything they encounter. \n11:45-12:30 pm – LUNCH PROVIDED \n12:30-1:45 pm – DUAL: LECTURE+HANDS-ONRevamping the Large Group Warm-Up by Taylor Moon \nOVERVIEW: Explore the combination of cognitive enhancement\, large group efficiency\, and physical preparation in our “Revamping the Large Group Warm-Up” presentation. We will dive into the realm of cognitive-based warmups that engage both the mind and body. Movement prep techniques will be discussed as a way to optimize performance\, coupled with targeted mobility exercises for flexibility\, balance\, coordination\, and plain old fun. Make the most of your space to create better flow and efficiency with our own “grid” style warm-up\, a strategic method that spices up your basic dynamic warm-up with a large group. You will be able to discover the “how-to” of effective and efficient group flow\, where communication and synchronized efforts will elevate your student-athletes and help make the most out of your training sessions. \n2:00-3:15 pm – DUAL: LECTURE+HANDS-ONEmergency Preparedness: Perspectives from Athletic Training by Josh Brodersen \nOVERVIEW: Athlete’s health and safety is the number one priority for healthcare providers and strength and conditioning professionals. During this program\, we will provide an overview of emergency medical conditions and ways to identify and prepare for an unexpected emergent condition\, including medical condition overview\, facility and staff preparedness\, school policy\, and outside resources. Collaboration amongst high school athletic trainers and strength professionals doesn’t end at where’s the first aid kit! Working to modify and adapt programming to keep the injured athlete involved benefits everyone. Common cases of injury limitations and rehab prescriptions will also be discussed. \n3:15-3:30 pm – CLOSING REMARKSJessica Gust\, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at St. Louis Park Public Schools \n***SIGN IN TO ACCESS MEMBERSHIP Ticket PRICING***
