Overview of Day’s Activities & Presentations

9:15-10:30 am – LECTURE
Fueling the High School Athlete by Anna Heronimus

OVERVIEW: Proper nutrition is a critical component of athletic performance at the high school level, yet it is often overlooked due to limited time, busy schedules, multiple activities, and gaps in nutrition knowledge.

In this presentation, Coach Anna shares simple, effective fueling strategies tailored specifically for high school athletes. Attendees will learn practical meal and snack ideas to support performance and recovery before and after practices, games, and weight-training sessions.

By keeping nutrition realistic and easy to apply, coaches can help athletes build consistent fueling habits that support energy levels, recovery, and long-term performance success.

10:45 am-12:00 pm – LECTURE
Maximizing Speed Training With Limited Resources by Taylor Buss

OVERVIEW: Training speed effectively in a high school setting often means working with limited space, equipment, and time—especially when serving multi-sport athletes.

In this presentation, Coach Taylor Buss outlines a practical system for developing linear speed, decision-making speed, and sprint endurance using minimal resources. Attendees will learn how to structure efficient sessions that address the “big rocks” of speed training in large group environments.

The session will also cover how to leverage simple video analysis tools to help athletes see their movement patterns, receive clear feedback, and make immediate improvements—without slowing down the flow of training.

12:15-1:00 pm – LUNCH PROVIDED
More Than a Meal, It’s a Networking Opportunity

Lunch at the NHSSCA Clinic is not just about grabbing a plate and catching up with your usual circle. It’s a chance to collaborate, share, and expand your professional network. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just stepping into the field of high school strength and conditioning, this is your moment to connect with coaches who inspire, mentor, and challenge you to grow.

If you leave this clinic without making at least one new connection, you’ve missed an incredible opportunity to grow professionally and personally. The NHSSCA is more than an organization—it’s a #FAMILY, built on shared knowledge, support, and a commitment to making each other better.

So, don’t just eat—engage, listen, and learn. The people sitting around you might change how you approach coaching forever. Let’s make this lunch one to remember! #NHSSCA #FAMILY #CoachingConnections #GrowYourNetwork

1:00-2:15 am – LECTURE
Utilizing Powerlifting in Your High School Performance Program by Andrew Priebe

OVERVIEW: Coach Priebe brings several years of competitive powerlifting experience and holds multiple rankings in his age and weight classifications. In this presentation, he provides practical insight into how powerlifting principles and techniques can be effectively applied in the high school weight room.

Powerlifting is not simply about lifting the heaviest weight possible. Instead, it emphasizes training moderate to heavy loads over extended periods to develop maximal strength, technical proficiency, and mental discipline. When implemented appropriately, these methods can enhance athlete confidence, resilience, and performance across all sports.

Athletes exposed to powerlifting training often develop a stronger mindset toward preparation, effort, and execution—qualities that translate directly to improved performance on the field of play.

2:30-3:45 pm – LECTURE
Hard-to-Reach Athletes: Coaching Development When the Basics Aren’t There by Eli Hammond

OVERVIEW: Every coach has them—athletes who are difficult to reach, especially when foundational support systems are missing.

In many cases, these athletes struggle with motivation, consistency, and belief in the training process. They may not yet be “hungry” to develop, and traditional coaching approaches often fall short.

Drawing from several years of experience coaching in one of the most challenging school environments in Omaha, Coach Eli shares practical strategies for reaching these athletes and creating meaningful progress. This session will focus on how to build trust, navigate difficult situations, and stay consistent through the hard moments—because often, it’s the small, intentional actions that make the biggest difference.
