Bridging the Gap from Rehab to the Field: ACL Return to Sport Testing in the High School Setting by Brian Bettner & Torrey Foster

OVERVIEW: This presentation examines evidence-based ACL return-to-sport testing adapted for the high school setting. It outlines practical assessment criteria, movement benchmarks, and strength, power, and neuromuscular readiness measures that inform safe progression from rehabilitation to full participation. Emphasis is placed on collaboration among athletic trainers, physical therapists, and strength coaches; resource-conscious testing protocols; and risk-reduction strategies that support confident decision-making while prioritizing athlete safety, performance readiness, and long-term joint health in adolescent athletic populations specifically.

9:30-10:45 am – LECTURE
The Cienega Way: From the Beginning to the Advanced by Steve Schween

OVERVIEW: This presentation outlines the philosophy, structure, and progression of the Cienega High School strength and conditioning program. Coach Steve Schween will walk attendees through how culture is intentionally built from day one and reinforced as athletes advance through the program. From foundational movement patterns and coaching language to advanced training methods and long-term athlete development, this session highlights how consistent standards, accountability, and purposeful 4 programming create buy-in, resilience, and performance. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for building a sustainable culture and a scalable program that supports athletes at every stage.

11:00-12:15 pm – DUAL: LECTURE+HANDS-ON
Preparing Athletes for Contact: Principles, progressions, and practical application by James Perez

OVERVIEW: Preparing Athletes for Contact: Principles, Progressions, and Practical Application explores how coaches can safely and effectively prepare team-sport athletes for the physical demands of contact. This session blends classroom instruction with hands-on demonstrations to outline key principles of coordination, posture, strength, bracing, and intent. Emphasis is placed on systematic progressions that transfer these qualities from controlled training environments to increasingly sport-specific contact situations, while prioritizing athlete safety, confidence, and performance at developmental levels and readiness levels.
