The Athlete Buy-In Rate A Systematic Approach to Engagement, Results, and Chaos-Free Coaching by Garrett Phelps
OVERVIEW: Many coaches aren’t struggling because of poor programming — they’re stuck managing chaos. Athletes drift in and out of engagement, standards feel inconsistent, and progress becomes difficult to sustain. The most frustrating part is not knowing why athletes aren’t fully buying in.
Buy-in is harder than ever. Attention is fragmented, expectations are often unclear, and motivation is frequently mistaken for structure. Without clear systems, coaches spend more time managing behavior than developing athletes.
This presentation introduces The Athlete Buy-In Rate — a simple, practical framework coaches can use to understand, measure, and improve athlete engagement. Instead of guessing or reacting, coaches learn how to build buy-in through clear standards and repeatable systems that reduce daily chaos and drive consistent results.
What You’ll Learn:
- Why athlete buy-in is harder right now
- The Athlete Buy-In Rate, explained
- Systems that consistently improve engagement
- How to run a Buy-In Audit to identify and fix breakdowns quickly
10:30-11:30 am – LECTURE
Exploration of Annual Training for Women’s College Soccer by Sophia Cheros
OVERVIEW: This presentation examines the annual periodization of strength training, speed development, conditioning, and overall athletic performance, providing insight into the natural ebb and flow of the year — from the off-season, through the preseason, and into the championship phase.
It will also explore how NIL and the transfer portal have influenced both physical development and team culturewithin the college game.
Overall, the session highlights how sustained performance and long-term success are achieved through collaboration between sports performance, athletic training, and the coaching staff, ensuring athletes are developed, supported, and prepared at every stage of the season.

Integrating Technology: Building a High-Performance High School Training System by Vincent Martins
OVERVIEW: Gain insight into how technology is used across all sports at Windermere Preparatory School to build a comprehensive, high-performance training system.
This session will explore how tracking speed and agility, along with bar speed, power output, and jump height, can enhance athlete development and inform smarter training decisions. Attendees will see live examples of these methods in action, as well as practical ways to apply the same concepts with or without technology.
Coaches will leave this clinic with a clear understanding of how to implement velocity-based training (VBT) and other performance technologies immediately upon returning to their weight rooms.
