Overview of Day’s Activities & Presentations
8:30-9:15 am – LECTURE
Creating a framework for technology usage by Katie Guillory
OVERVIEW: This presentation outlines a practical framework for integrating technology into a high school strength and conditioning program while keeping the primary focus on coaching, athlete development, and performance. As more schools gain access to tools such as GPS tracking, velocity-based training systems, and performance monitoring platforms, it becomes increasingly important to use these resources with a clear purpose and structure. This session will explore how coaches can use technology to improve decision-making, track athlete workload, monitor progress, and ultimately create more effective training environments for high school athletes.
9:15-10:30 am – HANDS-ON (NO SLIDES OR LECTURE)
Fundamentals of Multi-Directional Movement by Tim Kettenring
OVERVIEW: This presentation breaks down the foundational principles that allow athletes to accelerate, decelerate, and change direction efficiently during sport performance. Multi-directional movement is a critical component in nearly every sport, yet it is often underdeveloped or improperly trained. This session will highlight key movement mechanics, strength qualities, and body control needed for effective cutting, braking, and re-acceleration. Coaches will also learn practical training strategies and drills that help athletes move more explosively, reduce injury risk, and improve overall performance in game-like movement situations.
10:30 am-11:45 pm – LECTURE
The High School Performance Blueprint: Progressions and Periodization by Mike Davis
OVERVIEW: This presentation outlines a practical framework for structuring strength and conditioning programs that progressively develop high school athletes from freshman through senior year. Rather than treating every athlete the same, this approach emphasizes building a long-term development model that accounts for training age, movement competency, and physical maturity. The session will focus on implementing effective progressions and periodization strategies that systematically build strength, speed, and resilience while reducing injury risk and supporting sustainable athletic development throughout an athlete’s high school career.

1:00-2:15 pm – LECTURE
Game-Speed: Developing Athletes in the Offseason by Boo Schexnayder
OVERVIEW: This presentation explores how athletes can systematically develop speed during the offseason through a structured combination of targeted strength training, sprint mechanics, and progressive speed development work. The offseason provides a critical window to build the physical qualities that directly influence speed, including force production, technical efficiency, and sprint-specific strength. This session will highlight practical strategies coaches can implement to improve acceleration, develop max velocity, and enhance overall movement efficiency so athletes enter the season faster, more explosive, and better prepared for competition.
