Setting Standards Not Rules – Creating A Championship System Within The High School Setting by Brian Mong

OVERVIEW: Coach Brian Mong is coming to the 2026 Ohio NHSSCA State Clinic to break down one of the most important pillars of high-school performance: Building a Championship System Through Standards, Not Rules. If you care about culture, communication, and creating a unified training environment, this session is for you.

Coach Mong will show how clear, shared standards drive accountability, athlete ownership, and consistent behavior—without relying on constant discipline. He’ll outline practical ways to communicate expectations, align sport and strength staff, and build a system that sustains success year after year.

10:00-10:45 am – LECTURE
25 Years of Training, Toys, & Tips: Helping High School Strength & Conditioning Coaches Navigate and Own Their Space by Bobby Kaleal

OVERVIEW: From building elite systems at SPRI & SPIRE, to preparing operators for the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, to coaching UFC Champion Stipe Miocic, Bobby understands performance at the highest level—and how to scale those principles for high school athletes.

His session will dig into the practical side of coaching:

  • How to build adaptable systems in resource-limited environments.
  • How to integrate technology with purpose, not noise.
  • How to evaluate athletes efficiently and program with clarity.
  • How to create training environments that develop toughness, ownership, and competitiveness.
  • How to make high-performance principles accessible for every athlete in your building.

Bobby’s goal is simple: Give high school strength coaches the tools, strategies, and decision-making frameworks to elevate their entire program.

11:00-11:45 am – LECTURE
How to Manage and Overcome Pain in the Weight Room Dr. Dylan Seeley

OVERVIEW: Dr. Seeley is a chiropractor, performance coach, and owner of Inferno Performance Rehab. He bridges the gap between treatment and performance like few others—helping athletes not only return to play, but truly return to performance. His hands-on presentation will break down real, practical strategies coaches and clinicians can use immediately.

He’ll cover:

  • How to identify common pain patterns in the weight room
  • When to modify, when to regress, and when to keep training
  • How to build athlete confidence through smart problem-solving
  • Simple interventions that improve movement quality and reduce discomfort
  • Communication strategies that align coaches, clinicians, and athletes

If you work with athletes in any capacity, this is a session that will sharpen your eye, upgrade your toolbox, and elevate how you manage pain in real-time training environments.

12:00-12:45 pm – LECTURE
The Other Side Of The Sideline – Transitioning from Strength Coach to Administration Kelly Powers

OVERVIEW: Kelly Powers, Master Strength & Conditioning Coach turned Athletic Director, will be joining us to share an inside look at one of the most unique transitions in our profession—moving from the weight room to the front office.

Kelly will break down what the shift really looks like:

  • How a strength coach’s skill set carries over to athletic administration.
  • The challenges and opportunities that come with leading an entire athletic department.
  • How to communicate, collaborate, and influence from a new seat.
  • What she wishes more strength coaches understood about the AD role.
  • And how the transition has reshaped her perspective on culture, alignment, and program development.

If you’ve ever considered stepping into leadership beyond the weight room—or want to understand how to work more effectively with your AD—this session will be invaluable.
