Things I Wish I Knew When I First Started: Building the Standard in High School Strength & Conditioning by Joey Jacinto
OVERVIEW: This presentation focuses on the methods that drive success in high school strength and conditioning programs: culture, clarity, and consistency. Drawing from real-world experience building high school weight rooms, the session introduces Building the Standard, a practical framework designed to move programs from chaotic and inconsistent to structured, inclusive, and athlete-centered.
Attendees will learn how to establish clear standards, create athlete buy-in, and use simple, high-impact training principles—such as speed development and fundamental movement patterns—to drive effort and accountability. The session also addresses common challenges in the high school setting, including mixed-motivation classes, stakeholder communication, and equitable access to quality training.
Coaches will leave with actionable strategies, coaching cues, and reflection tools they can implement immediately.
