DWMA: Dynamic Warm Up Movement Assessment
Mike Bewley, MA, CSCS*D, RSCC*E, SSN, USAW-I
Founder, DWMA & Critical Reload
Traditional movement screens are excellent tools for screening movement limitations in clients. Their value holds substantial merit among physical therapists, athletic trainers, and personal trainers. The problem is what these movement screens teach proves challenging in a group or team setting. The essential information is there, but it must be honed, manipulated, and presented in a way that allows strength coaches to take immediate control. Moreover, traditional movement screens and corrective exercise routines want the strength coach to stop doing their athlete’s lifting and “getting stronger” work to do their “pre-hab” system instead. As a strength coach, I know that strength conquers a heck of a lot, and you can NOT cut that out of your program, or you don’t have a program. The DWMA is a strength coach’s movement screen. It is a performance system that lets you conquer group screening and succinctly apply corrective exercises without sacrificing the athlete’s training. In the DWMA lecture/hands-on sessions, coaches will learn how to make their existing dynamic warm-up a movement screen using the DWMA as a backdrop. Next, coaches will learn to implement corrective exercises into their regular training program as active rest between working sets without impacting training time.

Beyond Sets and Reps: Training High School Student-Athletes
John Beerbower, EdD
Director of Strength and Conditioning, McHenry Community High School (IL)
Strength and conditioning professionals have tremendous opportunities to make a difference in the lives of young people. The essential things in a weight room have very little to do with the weights! This session will focus on best practices and principles for helping a teacher-coach connect within their school culture and achieve outcomes beyond the physical fitness aspects of student success. Attendees will be provided strategies for promoting student wellness, understanding social-emotional learning, building a positive culture, and alignment with the classroom. The ultimate goal of the session is to help equip and inspire a strength coach to be one of the most impactful and critical educational leaders in their school.
