NATCON 2023 Recap

Recap-Everyone

We took the #Family Reunion to Homewood Flossmoor High School (IL) for NATCON 2023, and it was awesome! As we began the conference, Homewood FlossmoorSuperintendent Scott Wakely generously welcomed us with open arms, and Adam Vogel did an amazing job hosting the event.

The Awards Celebration and Dinner kicked things off on Thursday night, along with our keynote address from Dan John. We then had the privilege to honor our All-Americans, Programs of Excellence recipients, Scholarship Winners, State COYs, Regional COYs, and our National COY. The night was highlighted by the Hall of Fame ceremony as Reb Brock, Michelle Hart-Miller, and Pat Cullen-Carroll were inducted into the NHSSCA Hall Of Fame.

Friday morning started with Jen Brooks speaking at our Female Coaches Breakfast, where she gave an eye-opening presentation. Through her lens as an Athletic Director, she gave attendees truths and strategies to help them leverage their strengths. We then moved on to PreCon where Cal Dietz and Chris Korfist gave attendees five hours of loaded information focusing on how each part of the body impacts an athlete’s health and human performance.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, NATCON attendees were treated to five lectures and eight hands-on sessions. Taylor Smith, Doug Gle, Joe Kenn, John Beerbower, and Christina Chu and Matt Scherer from Gatorade, all gave impactful lectures in Illinois. Maddie Haralson, Tripp Smith, Mike Bewley, Rich Burnett, Rich Lansky, CJ Stockel, Tony Holler, Dave Schmitz, and Robert Dos Remdios brought high energy and applicable information during their hands-on sessions.

We cannot say enough about all these NATCON presenters. In addition to their presentations, many of them spent additional time chatting with coaches to ensure all questions and ideas were acknowledged. The opportunity for our attendees to connect with presenters and other coaches is one of the things that makes NATCON so special.

Lastly, we had the exclamation point on NATCON . . .  our Partner Raffle! We cannot continue to thrive without the support of our Partners. Thanks to their generous support, the NATCON 2023 raffle included:

  • $8,000 in gift cards
  • $4,000 in products (equipment, technology, etc)
  • 3 HSSCC
  • 2 Graduate Degree Scholarships
  • 1 Flight, Hotel, and Registration to NATCON 2024

Thank you to all those who attended, and a huge thank you to Adam Vogel and the entire Homewood Flossmoor community, which was so welcoming.
