Definitions

Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest exists when an individual's financial, professional, or personal interests could reasonably be perceived to influence (or appear to influence) their judgment, objectivity, or decision-making in the design, instruction, evaluation, or administration of NHSSCA educational programs.

Proprietary Interest

Any ownership, financial stake, consulting relationship, sponsorship, or other vested interest in content, products, equipment, services, instruments, devices, or materials used or referenced in NHSSCA learning events that may result in financial or professional benefit.

Policy & Disclosure Requirements

Required Disclosure

All individuals involved in the development, instruction, evaluation, or administration of NHSSCA learning events, including but not limited to instructors, content developers, subject matter experts, and evaluators, are required to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest or proprietary interests.

Timing of Disclosures

Disclosures must be submitted prior to participation and communicated at the beginning of the learning event when applicable.

Educational Integrity

These disclosures are intended to safeguard the credibility, objectivity, and educational value of NHSSCA programs and to ensure that learners are informed of any relationships that could be perceived as influencing content or recommendations.

Consequences for Non-Compliance

Failure to disclose a conflict of interest or to submit incomplete or inaccurate information may result in corrective or disciplinary action, including:

  • Removal from the learning event
  • Revocation of instructional or evaluative responsibilities
  • Termination of contracts or agreements
  • Other actions deemed appropriate by NHSSCA

Review Process for Non-Compliance

Alleged violations of the Conflict of Interest Policy are reviewed through the following six-step process.

Alleged violations are submitted in writing to the NHSSCA via info@nhssca.us .

The Executive Council reviews the allegation and supporting documentation.

If warranted, additional information is requested from involved parties.

Findings are documented, and appropriate corrective action is determined.

All documentation is maintained in accordance with NHSSCA record retention procedures.

Final determination is issued by the NHSSCA Executive Council.
