Overview of Day’s Activities & Presentations

10:40-11:55 am – LECTURE
Starting From Scratch: Building a High School Strength & Conditioning Program From The Ground Up by Tanner Swinford

OVERVIEW: This practical blueprint helps coaches build or rebuild programs through a strategic 30, 60, and 90-day implementation plan. By focusing on establishing clear standards, creating organizational structure, and securing buy-in from both athletes and staff, you will learn to install a championship-caliber culture. This presentation will cover implementing effective systems and foundational movement progressions. Coaches will gain the essential tools to develop a sustainable, high-performing environment that fosters long-term success and excellence for your entire athletic program.

12:00-1:15 pm – LECTURE
Aligning Periodization Structure With Physiological Outcomes by Aaron Gill

OVERVIEW: This presentation aims to provide a comprehensive guide for coaches on how to match physiological stimuli from fieldwork directly to specific weight room movement selection and volume/intensity prescriptions. By addressing the critical disconnect between field performance and gym training, this program explores the essential question: how can one expect to maximize speed and power production when these training modalities are not perfectly aligned? Learn to synchronize your programming to ensure every rep translates to explosive on-field results.

1:15-1:55 pm – LUNCH PROVIDED
More Than a Meal, It’s a Networking Opportunity

Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just stepping into the field of high school strength and conditioning, this is your moment to connect with coaches who inspire, mentor, and challenge you to grow.

If you leave this clinic without making at least one new connection, you’ve missed an incredible opportunity to grow professionally and personally. The NHSSCA is more than an organization—it’s a #FAMILY, built on shared knowledge, support, and a commitment to making each other better.

So, don’t just eat—engage, listen, and learn. The people sitting around you might change how you approach coaching forever. Let’s make this lunch one to remember! #NHSSCA #FAMILY #CoachingConnections #GrowYourNetwork

2:00-3:15 pm – DUAL: LECTURE + HANDS-ON
Integrating VBT into High School Weightrooms by Bradley Carn

OVERVIEW: This presentation will explore the practical integration of Velocity-Based Training (VBT) into a large-scale high school strength and conditioning program. Managing over 500 athletes requires a shift from simple “wants” to technical “essentials,” specifically in how we deliver programs and track progress with precision. We will examine the implementation of the STHS S&C program, which utilizes a modified block periodization model. Central to this system is the integration of Perch technology, allowing us to move beyond traditional percentage-based loads into objective speed zones.

3:20-4:15 pm – LECTURE
Bridging The Gap: Mastering Vertical Alignment From Middle School to High School Strength & Conditioning by Joey Heron

OVERVIEW: Attendees will gain insight into how we align our comprehensive programming to ensure smooth transitions as athletes progress through their high school careers. Beyond simple sets and reps, we will provide practical, actionable takeaways on our foundational progressions for weight-room movements, running form, and jumping mechanics. These universal principles are designed to be applied to a variety of coaching settings, from small teams to large-scale athletic departments. By highlighting our core developmental pillars, we demonstrate how to build a high-performance culture that prioritizes long-term athletic evolution over short-term gains.
